art & criticism from new orleans
Best elements of seeing Neutral Milk Hotel in New Orleans this week: 1) Jeremy Fuckin’ Barnes on the drums. Goddamn. Jeremy Barnes, y’all. 2) Hearing beloved pop songs faster, louder, and meaner than ever before. 3) Lording it over the proceedings from the balcony of a fancy theatre like unwashed royalty. Best non-music related moment: The crowd cheering at Charlie Day & his wife (“The Waitress”) so vehemently that they were chased out of the opera box and into the shadows.
